US aerospace giant Boeing has opened a new office, in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. This office is intended to be the group’s administrative hub for its activities and operations across the continent.

“Boeing’s expanded footprint in Africa is a testament to our commitment to the region’s aerospace industry,” affirmed Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa, and Central Asia president Kuljit Ghata-Aura. “This office will allow us to work closely with our more than 60 customers on the continent, forge strategic partnerships, enhance safety standards and contribute to the ongoing efforts to expand Africa’s aviation industry, which is a key driver of the region’s economy.”

This is not Boeing’s first office in Africa. The group also has an office in South Africa (Johannesburg). In addition, it has field service representatives in Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania and Togo.

“Africa is among the most promising markets in terms of economic and business growth,” highlighted Boeing Africa MD and Addis Ababa office head Henok Teferra Shawl. “Being closer to our customers, government stakeholders, and suppliers will enable us to develop solutions that best address the needs of Africa’s aviation sector.”

Boeing has been involved with the African aviation sector for more than 75 years. It has invested in the development of talent, promoted innovation, and helped with the development of industrial bases, across the continent. It has partnerships worth some $40- million with suppliers in Ethiopia, Morocco and South Africa. The group has also, since 2008, invested $22-million in joint projects with universities and non-profit organisations to assist with systemic educational improvements and economic empowerment across the continent. And it has supported free trade and market liberalisation.

The group is the number one supplier of airliners to African carriers. It works closely with them to modernise their fleets and reinforce safety standards.
